Research Interests

Behavioural ecology of aculeate hymenopterans. Macroecology and diversity of solitary bees and wasps.


I’m interested on different aspects of behavioural ecology and macroecology of apoidean hymenopterans (solitary bees and wasps). My focus is on competition (both trophic and spatial) between solitary wasps with similar requirements: niche overlap, individual specialization and spatial nesting patterns. We are also interested in the role of different cuticular components (cuticular hydrocarbons) as semiochemicals in trophic ecology, mating and parasitism. Additionally, from a broader ecological perspective, we are trying to elucidate the effects of landscape heterogeneity on wasps and bees communities, mainly in agroecosystems. Particularly, both from local and landscape perspectives, we analyze the role of factors such as connectivity, isolation and spatial and temporal heterogeneity on the diversity and efficiency of hymenopterans.
