POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM IN BIOLOGY AND CONSERVATION OF BIODIVERSITY


The main objective of our Master’s Program is to offer students specialized and integrated training in the study and conservation of biodiversity, understanding this as the variety of life, ranging from species, to landscapes, to ecosystems, and including the variety of factors, patterns and processes that characterize these levels of biological organization. In particular we wish out students to achieve the following:

Usal Biodiversidad Knowledge about and the application of the methods and techniques required for the inventorying of biodiversity in terrestrial and fresh-water ecosystems.
Usal Biodiversidad Acquisition of the knowledge necessary for the design and setting up of projects involving the conservation and management of species, communities and ecosystems
Usal Biodiversidad Management of biodiversity as a component responsible for the quality of the goods and services provided to humans by ecosystems.
Usal Biodiversidad A type of training that will enable students to follow a professional career within the sphere of conservation biology, both as regards environmental consultation and administration.
The Master’s degree has a duration of one academic year (60 ECTS credits), lasting from September to September. It requires full-time attendance, although students would be able to opt for a partial registration for a period of two years (30 ECTS each year). Special emphasis is placed on the practical side of the degree and students will be required to make a certain number of field trips and visits to renowned research centres. In its first year, the students performed more than 25 field work sessions, both in ecosystems of the Iberian Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands.
